Campaign 3 Session 63

The party explores a haunted house, maybe to break a curse, maybe to enjoy an entertaining haunted house.
Summary

The outside the manor is overgrown, once-trimmed bushes and topiaries run amok.

Inside the manor is a an opulent fireplace, a pair of double doors straight ahead, and a side door to the right. The door slams shut behind the party, the fireplace igniting and issuing them a riddle:

The candlestick can light the way,
but he's picky about what lights his fire
The clock knows where the good matchsticks are,
but you must serve tea to avoid his ire
the teapot looks for her wayward cup
find him among the idiots' bane
and fear not, for the matchsticks feel no pain.

The party decides that they likely need to find a cup in the library. They choose the door on the right and, after Ward has a bucket of freezing cold water dumped on his head, find a bizarre twisting hallway. Choosing a door, Ward slips on a banana peel, and Vera is hit in the face by a pie. Recovering from the japes, they find that they have located the library. The fireplace in the room annouces that the beast is in the dining room. Of note are three books opened on a table—red, blue, and green. The red book is a cook book, blue is a physics book, and green is a gardening book. Flipping over the blue book, Ward finds a teacup, which bites him. After determining that the teacup does not want to return to its mother, the party opens the other door in the room in search of the kitchen. There is a door to the west, and to the left are the sprawling hallways from earlier. Dorean opens the west door to a billiard room, a billiard ball rocketing out and hitting Vera. Behind them, they can hear presumably the beast roar and a voice welcomes them to the billard room, alerting them to the fact that the beast is in the library. Finding nothing of interest, the group continues through the next door. Ward suggests hiding in the ballroom, since the beast is likely aware they are going to try to make the tea. Arriving in the ballroom, the voice announces that the beast is hunting in the ballroom, and the beast indeed crashes down on the chandelier.

After a brief scuffle, the beast flees. The party makes their way to the kitchen, informed by the voice that they have a reprieve. They return the teacup to the teapot on the stove, who, after their own scuffle, pours tea into the teacup. They request permission to take the teacup with them to find the clock, as well as the location of the clock; they are granted permission, but not the location of the clock. They decide to search for the study, finding a passage in the kitchen that takes them directly to the study, where they do find the clock. Ward offers it to the face of the clock, which takes it with the clock hands and pours it down its front. It then hops away from the wall, grabs a box, and hands it to Ward before returning to its spot. Box of matchsticks in hand, they head toward the dining room. They find a candelabra choreographying a performance for various dishes and utensils, all of which fall still at their entrance. The voice declares the beast is in the kitchen. The party tells the candelabra that they have matches for it, which is sexily dances for. Once its candles are lit, it leads them to the conservatory, where it uses its flames to burn the vines blocking the door. Entering, the party is informed that the challenge before them now is to break the curse, so the party moves through to the garden. A woman of vines and roses as well as the beast from before emerge, prepared for combat.
