Campaign 3 Session 77

The party recovers the Heart of Fear for Dihada.
Summary

The Fourth Act is currently on track to arrive in Oceanside on Numrenth 13, leaving the party with around two weeks of downtime. Dorean opts to perform various jobs for the adventurer's guild. Eck begins performing research on the dragon temple in the area, as well as the dragon politics in Oceanside. Luna also does some jobs when not doing research on Holgrim; she also writes a letter to Ashley. Mira attempts to begin the process of enchanting her bracelet with the coin from Stephen, then joins the others on jobs. Vera splits their time between relaxing and writing letters and joining the others for jobs. Ward spends the two weeks working on his Shard research.

Dorean asks the head tailor in the palace about where to acquire good fabric to send home, and he writes her a letter of introduction (and directions how to find them in the Diamond District) to Oloro Kadmius. Dorean takes Oloro with her to look into fabrics, and do some clothes shopping afterward. The letter prompts Oloro to meet with her. He explains that they supply the fabric for a lot of the tailors in Oceanside as well as elsewhere; also the palace, which has a focus on materials that can easily have blood washed out of it. He introduced Dorean to Aridia, a dryder weaver, to assist in choosing a material. She offers a fabric that she has been working on in her spare time: a material harvested from a creature that uses the night sky as camouflage, cotton in some ways, silk in others, and the night sky in appearance. She is interested in having others try to work with it, as it is strange and needs the testing. She is gifted one bolt of this midnight fabric, as well as two other bolts of whatever fabrics she chooses. Dorean also performs one bronze quest over the next five days, receiving 150gp in payment.

Eck spends time in the library trying to look for the deepest lore about the dragon temple and the people involved with it. Over the course of several days they are able to discover the approximate locations of the tombs. This is Schvargosa's tomb, built first, followed by Schvargk's tomb, then the other four. Most of the information comes from Haben, an adventurer who attempted to explore Schvargosa's tomb; he and his party felt a sense of unease the entire time they were in the area. One source is Kothin's brother, Hirji; he was a tag-along healer for the group, but did not study with the others. His journal covers the journey of the group as they formed their Way; it mostly coincides with the research Eck had already, though the account of Schvargosa's fall has been ripped out. Schvarogk did not survive the final encounter.

Mira finds an accomplished enchanter, Elshaday Caleb Naoed, who works in Oceanside's archmage tower who is willing to do the enchantment on her bracelet that she wants. He is incredibly offended that he has been called upon to "make shoes," but accepts the job anyway, deciding to do it in two days to be impressive. She then does two days of adventuring, earning 11gp and 7gp. She returns to Elshaday, who has spent the last 48 hours enchanting the bracelet. He hands over the Bracelet of Defense and then passes out on the spot.

Luna takes Mira and Ward to the casino to Be Hot and to gamble. The shard bit has a protective and guarded fence, and inside is a grungy casino with a neon sign labeling the place as "Naked Greed." Immediately upon entering, Ward is accosted by a drunk magic-phobe. AFted dealing with him, they make too much of an impression while gambling, and the owner approaches them. He is a spindly man, his face pulled back—physically—into a wide grin and introduces himself as Greed. He offers to play her in one more hand, double or nothing. She agrees and barely manages to succeed. Annoyed, Greed offers another hand, a strange tarot card on his end, a week-long mission on hers. Luna manages to win. Greed effectively shuffles the tarot card into a deck and tells her to draw her reward, however many cards as she wants. Luna decides to draw one, drawing the Comet. At some point during the next year, she must choose a target to be her foe; she must kill that foe herself, gaining a level, with any other outcome, including not choosing a foe, results in a loss of a level. Upon drawing it, the air grows chill. The card becomes a light which briefly orbits Luna's head before disappearing. Greed invites them to the VIP lounge and wishes them a good night. Also Margaux is coincidentally there also being hot. Situated in the VIP lounge, Meneldin approaches them. He comments about her being "the real one," then mocks her presumed desire to find her mother and sister. He informs Luna that, once the time period is up, if Luna directly attacks him, he will rip apart her entire life. He then gets bored and leaves. Margaux asks who that was and if Ward wants her to try to kill him. He is legally not allowed to ask her to do that. Margaux declares that it is insane to have made a deal with him; genies and fae making deals ends in trouble. She then passes out, and the three decide to take her back home to sleep off the thirty or so drinks she's had. As Mira places Margaux in her own bed, Margaux attempts to keep Mira in place with her, though Mira is able to escape with a teleport easily enough.

Vera takes a 5-day job assisting a group finding a rare species of clam off the coast. It goes poorly, resulting in a failed job, injuries across the board, and two levels of exhaustion for Vera. They spend the next day recovering and writing letters to various people.

Ward spends one day researching Holgrim, but doesn't find much unexpected. He has been archmage for a long time and is the one who raised the center island off the ground. He has a generally good reputation in and around the city. Ward also researches potential sources for colorless mana. It is theorized it can be coaxed from distant stars or abberations deep in the astral plane. A recent discovery refers to the Ascendant Dragons; Nox, thought to be black and green, was actually born without any color, so his remains might be a potential source of colorless mana. The writer was unable to make any attempts due to lacking tools. He spends another day learning spells, Dimension Door and Counterspell.

Mira, having received an invitation to the fighting ring under the casino, takes Dorean there to hit things.

Luna receives a letter in her own handwriting that says, "She doesn't need you any more," signed L. The party discusses who the "other Luna" could be—potentially a shapechanger, likely this shard's Luna—and what circumstances she might be with Luna's mother. They learn that Lyra likely works at Hob's House, a local "tavern" that specializes in people with Luna's build. Slavery is banned, but indentured servitude is allowed. Ward and Margaux decide to go to Hob's House to figure out when Lyra works and keep an eye out for the other Luna.
