Summary
The group gathers—Talthis, Merely, and Liscina included—in Ward's room. He shows them the note and requests Merely and Talthis' assistance in dealing with the Director and maybe also the demon if she releases it before they stop her. They agree, and Talthis provides information about vampires and a ring which can cast Sunbeam once, which is given to Vera. They request and aquire transportation to the ruins via the airship itself, and the group descends into the caves once more. The ghost knights have seemingly been defeated, and the group agrees it's likely best to simply approach from the front. They send Luna ahead, who reports that the Director has vampires—the scientists from the lab—and several constructs with her, working on destoying the seal by destroying the statues of the knights surrounding a large crystal floating in the middle of the room. The Gods Slayer is floating near the top of the chamber, the Director standing nearby.
Combat ensues, the constructs working on destroying the statues of the ghostly knights, keeping the final knight-turned-demon imprisoned. Vera, using the ring from Talthis, pursued the Director, ultimately managing to keep her in the sunlight long enough to destroy her. Before she died, however, the Director dropped the Gods Slayer on the platform supporting the chrysalis containing the demon and everyone on top of it. Mira and Talthis fell, sliding down the walls of the pit to keep themselves safe, while Eck and Vera flew down after Liscena in pursuit of the falling chrysalis. Ward, Luna, Dorean, and Merely remained at the top, uncertain of whether they could or should follow the others down.
