Campaign 3 Session 76
The party recovers the Heart of Fear for Dihada.
Summary
Bahamut asks Vera who their raven friend is and how long they've know each other; Vera introduces their raven friend that they've known for their whole life. They know each other, though neither elaborates. The raven and Bahamut stare at each other for an awkwardly long time before the raven leaves. Bahamut leaves to prepare for dinner.
Ward pukes up his bard levels and goes to his room to recover.
Bathed and clothed in new clothes, the group goes to dinner. Prince Haiyin sits at the head of the table. To his left sits Bahamut, then Eck, Snowcap (invited by Bahamut with Prine Haiyin's permission), Margaux, and Ward. To his left sits a cloaked figure (wearing a convincing but clearly false beard), and elven woman (Miria, one of the prince's advisors), Vera, Dorean, Mira, and Luna.
Bahamut requests permission to invite anonther person and, when granted that permission, invites Snowcap to attend. She sits next to Eck and expresses pride in their actions. Ward is provided a plate with food like that from the Feywild, causing him some pains in not wolfing it down. It is the freshest food Mira has had in ages. Part-way through dinner, the Prince calls for a brief pause, and a guard shoots an assassin out of the rafters. Many people want his seat, so assassins are basically a daily occurrence. He laments that assassins finally got his brother, but does so with a level of snark that prompts a kick under the table from the badly-bearded man next to him.
Ward explains that he is researching the shards and trying to figure out how to undo them. He has some leads, involving colorless mana and the expensive prism—Vera attempts to snap him out of infodumping by making the sound of a cow mooing behind him; at the same time, Yellow makes a brief static noise.
After supper, Ward is informed of the library, and the party is given permission to stay at the palace as long as they desire or otherwise will have rooms prepared in the city. Ward is also able to obtain some research funding from the Prince, complete with a contract—20,000 gp with potential further funding with the stipulation that Oceanside be given access to the device or ability to create it themself.
Eck comes across Bahamut and Snowcap talking. Bahamut is attempting to reassure Snowcap that she has been trying to prove that the color of a dragon's scales do not dictate who they are. She wants to be friends, if not allies, which Snowcap says she will think on. Bahamut leaves, and Snowcap releases immense levels of stress. She explains that Bahamut is probably the most powerful dragon, so it's rather disconcerting for her to be so interested in her.
Eck is woken in the night by persistent knocking on their door. The dragon attendant bursts in and demands where Bahamut and Snowcap have gone. Eck does not know, knowing only that she left shortly after supper. She apparently did not tell her attendants, which has him entirely riled up. He apologizes, technically, and leaves in a huff.
Luna, Mira, and Vera gaze at the stars.
The next morning, Ward is shown to the library. It is a six-story building with a large open space in the middle. He lives here now.
Vera demands a beach day from the party. The badly-bearded advisor offers that the obeliskball league is in town and playing at the beach if they are interested; he also offers swimsuits for the woman—and a big floppy hat for Eck.
At the beach, Rad Longhammer and his teammates are indeed practicing on the beach. They offer to teach the group how to play and also to fill out their teams so they can do a proper 5v5 match. The first match is a tie, both obelisks being destroyed at the same time. The second match is close, but results in a narrow Stargayzers victory. Rad Longhammer then Heals the concussion Eck sustained during the match, and Vera dunks them into the ocean. This devolves into Dorean and Mira tossing the two dragons into the ocean.
Meanwhile, Ward finds a misplaced book, and autobiographical book about the life of Doctor Rad Longhammer.
