Campaign 3 Session 58
The party deals with the fallout of the events of the dungeon.
Summary
Dorean talks to Wrath about what happened while she wasn't aware during the initial confrontation with Wengir. Wrath explains that Wengir was one of the primary instigators of the conflict the Songstress was opposed to. One of Wengir's lieutenants was responsible for the the events represented in the temple they had visited, and Wrath had been wielded by a lieutenant of Wengir's until his defeat, at which point Wrath was entombed in the temple.
Luna picks up the oil she had ordered; Vera picks up their armor.
The dragon temple Eck and Abernathy were ready to visit has been shard displaced. What is there now is a piece of jungle.
Edwin is not with the Eternal Horizon right now; he was called home on business, so command has been turned over to Adze for now.
The party and Talthis gather in the Stitch barn to discuss what they are going to do about Ashley and the book. They agree that asking her questions under the effect of Zone of Truth to determine her motives and reasons for killing the man in the dungeon and wanting the book make sense. Ward informs them that Ashley wants the book present for the conversation, and eventually they agree that Cecily being present with the book is an acceptable middle ground, though Vera is still upset about it. The group spends the next couple of days recovering.
The next day, Ward and Cecily take some time to examine the book. They find that the book is incredibly old, and that the information in it is necromantic in nature; Ward's intro to necromancy class in college—albeit taught by a lich—contained much of the same information. It also has a few mid-to to-high-ish level spells in it, succh as Soul Jar. Minerva, the author of the book, was a somewhat noteworthy necromancer during the time of the Three Kings War, credited with having a hand in some of the atrocities that occurred during the conflict. Ultimately there is nothing particularly powerful or alarming in the book.
The following day, the party gathers in the barn with Ashley, Talthis, and Cecily. Talthis casts Zone of Truth, which Ashley willingly submits to. Ashley explains that she is collecting the books that belonged to someone close to her. She killed the man because he had the knowledge to discover where other books were, and that was dangerous in her mind. She is locating the books to ensure the dangerous ones—of which she has found none—are destroyed—which she doesn't know how to do; the rest she collects for personal reasons. The book is returned to Ashley. Vera takes Cecily back to the airship while Talthis and the party remain to chat with Ashley. After some time, Talthis suggests he walk Ashley back to her inn so she can spend some time with her book. He asks if she is pleased with the resolution things have come to.
