Campaign 3 Session 54
The party attempts to solve the mystery of the Erewald dungeon basement.
Summary
In the morning, Ward casts Remove Curse in an attempt to recover his memories from the dungeon the previous day. The memories as recounted by Wrath return to him—meeting Ashley, traveling through increasingly difficult puzzles and combats, reaching a thick fog on the fifth floor and the demon lord who cast the spell. The demon spoke in a language Comprehend Languages was unable to decipher, presumably some language unrelated to any languages from this reality. After breakfast and as he leaves to rejoin the party, Vostra, the mage training Ward, requests he tell Invicta that she agrees to her proposal and to come by when she has a chance. She then stabs at him with a shortsword, Ward almost defending himself successfully from her attack.
Ashley leaves before dawn, looking for information about people acting weird after leaving the dungeon. One sorcerer recounts feeling watched while in the dungeon, but otherwise Ashley learns nothing. Luna meets "Tim" at breakfast before meeting up with the group at the Guild. Ward meets the rest at the Stitch house, updating them on the memories he has recovered. They agree that it may be best to dig up underneat the dungeon instead of going through the hassle of four floors. After catching everyone up on what he remembered, the group agrees to the plan of digging through the mole's tunnel and into the basement of the dungeon, hopefully bypassing the combat otherwise required to explore the dungeon.
Vera digs a tunnel following the approximate path of the previous tunnel, reaching a stone wall between the fourth and fifth floor. Making the entrance of the tunnel about eight feet above the floor, they can see the miasma and not much else. Using Detect Magic, Ward is unable to find anything particularly magical about the miasma itself. Vera casts Protection from Evil and Good on themself, and the group moves into the room and begin traveling toward a gathering of lights in the distance. The stone walls and floor give way to a more natural terrain. The demon appears near them, asking what gave away that something was wrong, prompting them to return. Vera agrees to answer if they will answer questions in return. They agree to an exchange of questions. Vera explains that there were inconsistencies between them and in their belongings that weren't explained. Ultimately they explain that they are feeding on the blood and adrenaline of the adventurers who explore the dungeon, so while they are willing to wait and store up their strength; the remains of their home are nothing compared to where they are from. Ashley notes the books he is looking for is strapped securely to their belt, so she asks about it. Someone had come seeking sanctuary, offering up the book in exchange; a deal which they accepted, providing a room in their mansion. They observe that Ashley is the demon ("their words") pursuing them. She offers a trade: the group leaves them alone in exchange for the book. They decide that isn't acceptable, once again activating the memory modification powers, not expecting Eck and Vera to be prepared for this and thus being unaffected. They recognize Wrath, observing that they last saw Wrath trapped in a dungeon with "that pretty little songstress [Wrath] killed." Wrath is annoyed by this, channeling some of its powers to prompt Dorean to be prepared for combat once able. Unable to reach a compromise, the demon, now introduced as Wengir, launches a dark fireball at the group, freeing everyone from the charm and initiating a brief combat. They Dimension Door to their mansion before combat can go very far.
Mira faces off against her copy, but hears metallic footsteps behind her. A suit of red armor approaches through the fire, and Logir Sol is suddenly in front of her and aiming a flaming fist at her face.
