The group reconvenes at the Mercchant's Rest to updates each other and discuss plans. It is determined that it is possibly the best bet to speak with the person who made the porcelain elephant being used to sell the Crystal Needle. Tuxeal Udoxiros is understandably nervous about people asking about the thing he was hired by the Ossaturae to create. Realizing that they intend to commit crimes about it, he demands that the group get him out of town before the Ossaturae realize they need to deal with him. He does agree to make a decoy elephant for them, however. He also warns that the elephant is set up to release toxic gasses if the elephant is not opened properly—by tickling the elephant's foot and twisting its tail.

As the group returned to the Merchant's Rest to come up with a plan to get Tuxeal out of town, they notice that they are being followed. They split up, forcing their follower to pursue them separately. They are all confronted by various cloaked undead who wish to take them to their boss. Vitu escapes her captor while the others kill their assailants. Their flimsy cover very blown, the group decides to extricate Tuxeal immediately. They sneak back to his shop, break down his back door to allow him more stealthy escape, and take him back to the Merchant's Rest to get him out through the secret passage behind the fireplace.

Once the common area is clear, Vitu and Tuxeal head down to the fireplace. Upon opening the passage, a skeleton smoking cigar and wearing a pin-striped suit steps out.0 He informs them that their group has made quite the introduction. He is Chiron Graves, leader of the Ossaturae, or as the locals refer to them: The Skeleton Mafia.
